Nice pack except the zippers do not appear to be durable. Not as heavy duty as I was expecting but very useful

Recently bought a primary and spare Tour of Duty backpack to replace my original 'Gunny Approved' Tour of Duty backpack. In short; not happy with the changes that occurred with these packs from the time of the "Gunny Approved" packs and now. I did a side by side comparison with my old "Gunny Approved" duty pack (finally just wore out from years of hard use); no more heavy duty reverse coil zippers on all of the main compartments, large majority of the double zipper pulls allowing you to access the storage areas from either side have been reduced to a single pull single direction only, the straps have been reduced in width, no more double hydration access points to allow for right or left side access. I am disappointed in what appears to be a materials cost reduction to vendor/same price point to customer product. I do still like the pack; I carried the 'Gunny Approved' one on duty for years (since the inception of the Tour of Duty packs; they've stood up to the rigors of being stuffed about 40 lbs of my standard load out (GSW gear, spare ammo, batteries, spare duty tools, issued duty gear, food, water, etc.), being thrown into and yanked out of patrol vehicles & duty lockers, humped on patrol in all weather conditions, etc. The molly allows me to strap on additional third party vendor attachments necessary to support operations on extended shifts in the field. I do like the added improvement of the "zipper assist" tabs on this newer Tour of Duty pack. This review may seem nitpicky, however when you (and possibly your partner) rely on your gear for potentially life threatening situations, you expect to get what you pay for. However...if the quality continues to drop, I won't be back for another one. Wish I could give this a 5 star rating; I have to give this a three.

The Tour of Duty Backpack is the best back pack that I have every had or used. I wish that I discovered it earlier in life. I definitely would have saved me a lot of back and shoulder pain and would still be in great condition. I use mine for work, for traveling, and for my hobbies. If I start a family, it will be a perfect travel bag for diapers, bottles, toys, wipes… The size and plethora of pockets are great! I have a protected pouch for my laptop and all of my writing utensils. I have pockets perfect for my cell phone and wallet (external pockets for easy access and hidden pockets to keep away from pickpockets). I have plenty of molly pouches to attach whatever my heart desires to the backpack. The hidden pocket on the back of the backpack is so hidden that I thought that I lost my phone twice the first two times that I used it. It was so hidden that I couldn’t even find it, lol. There is enough space in the two zippered compartments for me to pack clothes, toiletries and shoes for a weekend away. The best two features of the backpack are the amazing straps for back and shoulder support, and the fact that the material is water/weather resistant. I usually can never put chocolate protein bars in my backpacks because they get too hot and melt when the backpack stays in the sun. I live and play beach volleyball in Florida and have never had a bar melt in my Tour of Duty backpack, even with the bag sitting in the sun all day. I also really love that if I have to walk through the rain or if the bag is outside when it starts raining, the inside contents never get wet. It is the perfect backpack!

Outstanding product. The only problem I had is remembering where I stowed stuff due to the many storage options. Large enough to travel, small enough to carry on. Perfect size, seems durable and well put together. Looking forward to using this pack for years to come.

Almost perfect. As a Medic, I’m always on the hunt for the best bag. Perfect looks like hook and loop straps, or Pouch Attachment Ladder System (PALS) on the inside of the main compartment lining the outer wall of the laptop sleeve and replacing the organizer. The ultimate bonus would be if the PALS had Velcro similar to the exterior pocket. The outermost compartment could probably do with PALS instead of the internal organizer as well.
